Sturton Street Dwelling
Small scale big change
A small Cambridge terraced house has been transformed into a 4 bed family home with a loft conversion and 2 storey rear extension. The original front and rear rooms were amalgamated, and a large kitchen / diner added with generous access to the garden. The loft bedroom uses an innovative lighting solution to make the most of the restricted headroom. The work was carried out as two separate projects at different times.
Where space is so constrained, one key factor is ensuring there is adequate natural light in all spaces – hence generous rooflights over the stair, drawing you up into the light, and in the kitchen. A second key to success is the imaginative use of space within very tight constraints, for example the bespoke drawers created for storage in the loft bedroom. In this way a family home has been created in a prime city centre location.
