Residential

Our residential portfolio ranges from newbuild projects in affordable housing to individual houses for private clients and high-quality commercial developments. In each case simplicity of architectural expression is preferred over ornamentation and care is taken to maintain design quality, privacy and security, while also ensuring the development relates well to the surrounding community.

Barn Conversions

Lolworth, Cambridgeshire

A courtyard of brick barn buildings and cartsheds was converted into four beautiful homes. The client purchased with site with basic planning permission for the conversions, which we then revised to create more workable  houses, principally with the addition of a cloister-like circulation zone to parts of each dwelling on the courtyard side; this created substantial additional value for the client. Two of the homes are 2 storey, and 2 are single storey.

One-off House

in Çambridge

This handsome 5 bedroom house was created on an impossibly tight plot, created from two gardens. The overall plot measured 21m x 8m, with the footprint of the house taking up 13m x 8m. The house is conceived of as a block built tight up to 3 of the 4 boundaries, from which is then carved volume to allow in light. The success of the building relies on avoiding overlooking from and to the house, and in bringing light deep into the plan in ingenious ways.

Cambs Homes

for a housing charity

An affordable housing scheme in a Cambridgeshire village providing 6 semi-detached houses and 4 flats.

Norfolk Barns

converted granary

One of three barn conversions, this is a listed granary. A new roof was placed over the existing structure, which remains expressed on the inside.

Affordable Housing

Cambridgeshire

This scheme for affordable homes is Phase 2 of an existing development on the edge of a Cambridgeshire village. Care has been taken to ensure the new homes form a seamless extension to the existing part.

Quarrata, Italia

Europan 3 Special Mention

Europan 3 international architectural competition entry for redevelopment of Lenzi furniture factory, Quarrata, Italy (with David Joy). This scheme won a Special Mention, and led to commissions for a masterplan (in collaboration with 3 other international teams) and a large residential development.
