Education

Archangel has varied experience in the University sector, particularly amongst the Cambridge Colleges. As an active member of the Keystone Domain group of practices we also draw on extensive expertise in the primary and secondary schools sectors. We pride ourselves on our skill in creating environments that actively encourage learning and creative interaction of staff and students; central to achieving this is the involvement of all interested stakeholders, including the students themselves.

College Rooms

refurbishment of listed rooms

Archangel has carried out a number of alterations for Clare College in Cambridge; most of the College's building stock is listed, and we are well practised in staisfying the requirements of Conservation Officers within tight project timescales.

Link House

graduate student rooms

This building has been designed for Link House Trust, a charity in Cambridge providing accommodation for graduate students from overseas. This building is the second new build phase and consolidates the accommodation on a single site.

Student Hostel

refit of 1950s building

The original building was designed by David Roberts and completed in 1958, providing 40 rooms, 2 flats and 2 dining areas with kitchens. All rooms will be fitted with en-suite shower rooms, and the refurbishment will include 2 fully compliant rooms for disabled residents, together with improved access. One dining space will be enlarged, with improved kitchen; the other will be converted into 3 interlinked meeting rooms. A gym for students will be added in the undercroft. The project is due for completion in June 2009.

Porter's Lodge

for a Cambridge College

A small Porter's Lodge was required for this area of College property away from the historic centre of Cambridge. The building is intended to be temporary so the design is an exercise in economy of means, using a simple pallette of materials. The building sits between and existing hipped roof building, and some mature trees.

College Workshop

maintenance building

A new building to consolidate the maintenance departments into a single location for this Cambridge College; a later phase is planned to add to the building.
