Domestic

Even when budgets are tight, domestic projects can be amongst the most creative. And they are always intensely personal - remodelling one's own house is amongst the most creative things one can do. Success rests on probing beyond the programmatic requirements to consider what place the proposals will hold in the client's lives.

Transformation

a bungalow reborn

This project transformed the existing flat roofed bungalow, which lacked much external appeal; one of the principal aims was therefore to give the house some height and presence; the house number is etched into the front door.

Edwardian Cottage

Substantial changes to an Edwardian property, with extensions to the side and rear. Great care was taken by the client to ensure a match for the existing imperial brick, and the existing cottage was transformed for modern living.

Victorian Extension

height and light

Single storey extension to a 3 storey Victorian property, creating a flow of space between kitchen, dining and garden.

Public House

extension and alterations

This former public house was extended and extensively reworked to open the house up to its garden, and to create a generous sense of flowing space within it. From the street the elevation treatment continues the use of sliding sash windows, but does so in a deliberately modern manner.

Gymnasium

work out space

Detached gymnasium in grounds of house to the south of Cambridge. In addition to the gym itself the building provides a gallery accessed via a ladder stair, a shower room and a separate sitting area. The project also included the design of the hard landscaping that tied the new building in with the existing house.

1930s House

extensions and alterations

This house underwent substantial alterations including rear extensions and a loft extension for a family of five. The project added an open plan kitchen diner and several bedrooms.

Victorian House

Loft conversion and ground floor alterations

Loft conversion and ground floor alterations to a Victorian semi-detached property in central Cambridge.
