CHBC Family Centre
The Family Centre is the church hall for Cherry Hinton Baptist Church. As well as being a rentable space for the community, it is primarily used by the church for Sunday School, a Friday night youth group, a senior citizens group, a parent and toddler group and other events in the life of the church which benefit the wider community.
Archangel were asked to provide a scheme which improved disabled access, provided a disabled WC, improve storage solutions and upgraded the internal fabric of the centre to make the space more suitable for current uses and attractive to new rental users. The design incorporates all of these via internal alterations and an extension to the rear which provides an enlarged second meeting room and kitchen space. The enlarged kitchen not only provides better catering facilities, but it also now serves into both meeting rooms. This, combined with the addition of an external door to each meeting room, now means that the Family Centre can be used by two separate groups simultaneously. This is great news for the church as they can effectively double their rental income and, more importantly, they can use they building more effectively in their outreach to the wider community – the addition of the church’s mission statement to the glazing of the new front doors helps the building to speak for the church.
The Church have managed to secure a number of grants to fund the project, with contributors including; Cambridge City Council, WREN, AmeyCespa and Lloyds Bank Community Fund.
The project was recently opened by the Mayor of Cambridge, with representatives from the various grant funding bodies, the Main Contractor and Archangel present to join the congregation in a great time of celebration.
